I'm sorry, but I feel the need to correct your choice of vocabulary.

You use the word "intelligible" in the title of this post. I don't think this is what you really intend to say...

"Intelligible" is a word that means comprehensible, or understandable. A common use of this word in the deaf field is to talk about "intelligible speech" - a deaf person who has speech that can be easily understood by others.

I think the word you are really wanting to use here is "intellectual" or "intelligence" - intellectual is a word meaning of or relating to the intellect, or showing intellect... especially of a high degree.

Intellect refers to intelligence - the ability to learn and reason, the capacity for knowledge and understanding.

I fully agree with your vlog - speech skills are not a demonstration of one's intellectual ability, and should not be used to show who is actual smart and successful, and who is not. There are many Deaf intellectuals who do not have speech skills - or what might be called "intelligible speech."

While I do understand that English can be a challenge for many Deaf individuals, I do believe that all of us in the Deaf Community should take advantage of every opportunity to learn new language skills whenever possible. This will in fact help to show that we are in fact intelligent individuals, regardless of our hearing or speech skills.

Thank you.

Virginia, no problem. I appreciate any correct, as I am not ashamed of my vocabulary. I am still learning and improving my English vocabulary and grammar. :)

I will go ahead and make correction. I was unsure between intelligible and intelligence. Dictionary: "intelligible-capable of being understood; comprehensible; clear: an intelligible response." That's how I pick this word, but you explain more clearly than dictionary.com. Intellectual is perfect word. Its define as "possessing or showing intellect or mental capacity, esp. to a high degree: an intellectual person." (From dictionary.com)Thank you for helping by correct my vocabulary and my message still same as we should focus on person's intellectual instead of rate deaf person's intellectual based on hearing and speaking skills.
