My experience at HEI (Hearing or House Ear Institute)

I did remember HEI as Hearing Ear Institute, but I can't find it in google. I only can find is House Ear Institute and it didn't come from Malibu, but in Los Angeles. The building of House Ear Institute didn't look same as I remember from past. I am absolute sure that I saw Hearing Ear Institute sign before I enter the campus in Malibu. If anyone has information, then let me know. Thank you.

Video run: 7:55 (Sorry, this is my second longest vlog that I have created since I start this blog.)

the House Ear Institute definitely moved, or has more than one location now.

when I was very young, I went to the LA office. a few years ago I went to their Irvine office when I was out in Cali.

Be aware, that Dr House has a brother who is also named..... Dr House. =)

I think they are William and Howard?

LOL .... Cafeteria is one of your favorite events. Yum ... True Biz -- I agree with you. I grew up as a Deaf Oralist until I came to Gallaudet in '84. Whoa .. I had missed out ALOT! I was often misinformed by my teachers, friends, and family about the Deaf people who can't learn well in school because of their poor speech and etc . I wish I had learned ASL as a young toddler .. but never too late. Anyway - Glad you went for a fun and keep your friend a company!

Time to change that what the DEAF children have bilingual education or dual education could get high intelligent, Deaf children would get better than level of grade 3 education. Don't you think??

Still in habit thinking on the contrary. Generally oralism education has been impaired from sharing full access to information. Still, they use English as their first language and have some access communication with hearing society. Evident that brings oralism advantages getting better opportunity in career field or even with their life. Education not always brings succession to people. We can’t really say for ALL, each of us has unique perspective about who we are. There are numerous of brilliant oralism out there as well goes with ASLan too.

Other thing what strongly influential to our community is among our society, highly majority surround our community always has been hearing with audism perspective. Their thinking often looks at us as defective, yet possible to fix even trying to “cure”, and then must talk; lip reading and speech! Even more worse with capitalism system promote corporation to influence people’s way of living. Its America and those AVT, CI industries, medical field’s opportunity to create impacts and giving hopes among parents, others.

What may support us the best would be statistics, research documents, etc that shows what best for our education system. Sending educators giving presentations, workshops, etc that promote ASLan, dignified ourselves into professional level may pull us into brighter spotlight.

jbaldridge: The phrase "Evident that brings oralism advantages getting better opportunity in career field or even with their life" is very misconception in our society. That phrase giving people a message that person who can't hear and using ASL will not have better opportunity in career or even with their life. That's where you got it wrong, because there are many deaf people who use ASL without speaking does success in life and enjoy their life as well. The option to use oral is matter of choice, not matter of better choice. I hope you understand that the phrase is very demeaning to deaf people who can't hear and use ASL.

The camp you're referring to is House Ear Institute's Family Camp located at Camp Hess Kramer in Malibu. Their office has expanded from their original location at St. Vincent's Hospital to just down the street, and now has other office location in Irvine.

There are two House, MD -- John and William (William relocated to Oregon for his own goals). Howard was their father and passed away a few years ago.

Thought I'd give some information/corrections.

As for the 1994 Camp -- I do not recall if I was actually there or the "forum" you spoke of (was it a camp activity or a counselor meeting?). I totally understand your perspective and am surprised such forum occurred. Sounds like those who were in attendance got some information that they hadn't grasped before. Excellent speech.
