What about those who aren't use ASL at all like Cued, SEE, Oral, and many others "English" methods. Thus they not consider "ASLan" still we couldn't denied that they are also deaf. They may be uneducated, not knowing such as denial environment, i.e. many Deaf individuals are living and socially with variety of groups.
Now where could we be inclusive those groups of people? Are you saying they are not part of our community until they learn/associate with form of ASL? All of us based using ASLan? I know several profound deaf and yet they are using SEE. I consider them part of Deaf no matter what.
Something better than "ASLan" because ASL known as our form of communication. I agreed with you "Deaf" is define by hearing loss perspective. What we share in the common, "hearing loss" is one of them as we have to admit, yet we are more to that. It has more impacts to our lives like language, way of living, social, and...
Wondering hasn’t any linguistic put their thoughts to the concept? I am looking forward to discuss about the better word to use.. ASLan is still raw, where's our chief/s?
If you can watch my another vlog, My perspective on ASLAN. I would like to focus on form of communication instead of based on disability. I will create another vlog respond to your concern. I am not trying to be rude, but your comment is best example of "Crab Theory." For long time, ASLAN has been move on, but non-ASLAN has keep on our shoulder and when they find an opportunity. They leave us alone. It stops. It is time for ASLAN to move on and focus on better future. Non-ASLAN are welcome to learn ASL, we are not stopping them, but they stop themselves by not learn ASL. I hope I can explain clear on my next vlog. Thank you for sharing your concern.
Support and use ASL!
