Very true! Maybe they should post two vlogs, with and without subtitles? Like you use quicktime and youtube. Gallaudet Vlog of Davila have subtitle option. I have no idea how it works :-P

That's why I like vlogs that give you a choice of turning subtitles/CC off or on. I have issues with vloggers embedded subtitles on their vlogs because like you, my eyes go to the bottom of the vlog to read. Habits die hard, I guess.

Since I cannot expect everybody to give that choice of turning CC on or off (someday, someday!), I usually just put my hand up to block the subtitles.

Bob Davila's Vlog do have "ON/OFF" button for CC which I like a lot.

I disagree....

There are vlogs there that *needs* to be subtiled to pass out the info to HEARING PARENTS.

I second gnarlydorkette, about turning it on and off...thats a good one.

When I watch a vlog, I don't see their subtiles, becaue I'm soooo focused on their topic/and their signing. Am I the only one who can "block" out subtiles in my eyes and watch the signer???

Finally, someone speaks this up, lol.

Yeah, I totally agree with you that this has to be done differently. Guess old habit dies hard!! Perhaps we do the paper to cover the subtitles for now??

Gosh, I am annoyed with double stories over those years.. I cannot comprehend how I could tolerate those double stories... but I did with stomach upside, lol..

Bravo! Bravo!
I have same issues with that.

All my vlogs have no subtitles.
Why should I put them up?

If all vlogs created by hearing people have subtitles, then I will add them to my vlogs.

I guess it is all depends on who you want to target with your vlogs. For me, Deaf community and ASL users. I guess it's matter of preference here.

Keep it up!

SG,

Don't worry, I did mention in my vlog that I am not telling vloggers who use subtitles to stop doing it. This vlog focus on how can I solve the problem for myself? :)

Gnarlydorkette's right, I use the On/Off switch feature on my vlogs sometimes. Or I just type down a summary of what was covered in the vlog. This way, it's more accessible to all of my audience.

Wow, a little battle in my vlog. :)

Its important as Seek Geo and drmzz mention that my vlog focus on my problem and how can I solve my problem. The rest comments between them is their arguments.

Anyway, thank you for sharing your feedback. I appreciate it. :)

Awww. I am sorry for angry comment about attack on SG. he is truely friendly. I hate to read nasty comment. I feel bad something it hurt people feeling as I am tired of hearing alot.
I am too protect too much on the people being senstive! Honesty I hate the way people comment.

Forgive me for nasty comment to view
Simple for me to say friendly comment instead of attack one simple. No need fun of them.

OHHH Enough, some vloggers use captions on their videos to help others who are learning to sign or don't know sign. Just try ignore the captions on videos which i do, but sometimes if i did not catch a word or sign from someone, captions do helps me and even other deaf ppl too... also there no need to be childish and put down other people. just appericate people's work they have done on their vlogs sites, i go to almost every vlogger site and i appericate their hard work!!!

*chuckles*

Thanks for the laughter today. I needed that!

I know your message is not intended for making people to laugh.

But, I found it funny! Yes, I experienced the same problem. (I do cover the subtitles sometimes...)

Ha ha ha.

Good vlog!

I realize that captioning can be distracting on a vlog, but try to understand that the captioning is just not for hearing people, but also for those oral deaf/ late-deafened trying to learn ASL. Some of us cannot attend or afford ASL classes, so this is one way of learning-- online vlogging.

As for the ongoing spat between two commenters (which IS distracting), you, ASLPride, as the vlogger have the right to moderate comments. To allow bashing of other commenters to go unabated may drive other readers away.

Thank you so much for your WONDERFUL "Issues with subtitles on vlog".

Let you know that before I went work, I got SO WORN OUT from working on subtitling my video while I am on researching on my religion (FYI: not strong catholic myself) education history and trying to understand and trying to find out why my old Oral Deaf School banned Sign Language in 1934.

I appreciated your feedbacks so much!!! Also I remembered that we did debated about captioning or not from one of the vlog (pls do copy and paste) link:

http://drmzz.blogspot.com/2007/01/only-artist-decides.html

So I decided not to put subtitling on my video from now on because I agreed with someone did mentioned that many hearing people do not bother to give out their own voicing transcripts on their many videos, anyway!

Smile. I did enjoyed reading all of the comments! WOW!! Thanks for this debating! Warm ASL Hugs!

Hmmm. Interesting...

That's why MoPix is popular with theatres. OC is not acceptable to a lot of folks for those same reasons.

I respect anyone's freedom of choice to put on subtitles - I know I sure appreciate it. But I think the reasons that ASL Risen and Mikey mentioned,

"If all vlogs created by hearing people have subtitles"

and

"that many hearing people do not bother to give out their own voicing transcripts on their many videos"

are bad reasons to not subtitle or transcribe.

But again, whether someone does it is their own choice, and is a factor in who can access their messages.
