- Support and use ASL! I am from deaf family and graduated at California School for the Deaf, Riverside in 1995. I have deaf parent, one deaf brother and several deaf uncles, aunts and cousins. I have a wonderful wife with three awesome kids. My first two kids are boys. They are tough, but compassion toward our daughter. Graduated with B.S. Degree in Information Systems Security. Yeah same many happen to anywhere in North America alsoo other countries majority people are doing same look down on us and some are on SSI ODSP, VR etc and They re as Audist However we all respect each and support.

Job discrimination I have seen in last 8 years since living here in Colorado is UNBELIEVABLE. Chain businesses (I mean several of them) still let deaf employers go before 90 days probation, taking advantage of "pre-probation" low wage without benefits. One of my friend had been interviewed numberless job positions for accounting where she is an expert with awards and excellent reference letters. She was jobless for 4 years until two months ago this person finally got a full paying decent job with benefits. I asked, how did you land that job? Her reply, "owner of the company happens to have Deaf relative and know that Deaf people are indeed good workers. Hiring interpreters with tax deduction are nothing compared to keep on rehiring people".

I am telling you a truth that I agree with deaf struggle to find a job and person lost the job and looking for another job and keep up and it keep running out of money from Unemployment check which it is not your fault. because they struggle to find a job due to deaf cannot hear. I blame all of business doesnt really understand about Deaf and blind. or Whatever.
Business is hurt to deaf community that they need a job in anywhere.
Admitted that I did against SSDI/SSI for long time I have been work more than 9 years at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, FHCRC hire 5 deaf employee. I left FHCRC and found out that they hire another 5 deaf employee. I am thinking about go reapply. I have not start yet. but I am tried to find a job as 20 hour a week because my daughter need me I would not able to find a full time .. Instead of I staying with my daughter's medical attention. It is hard for me to not able to find a job for more than one years. I realized it is not lazy. Business often doesnt really understand about Deaf have a common sense to work skill .. DVR wont help me as they called me AUDISM.. not all DVR counselor did help me past of yeas. but now I feel my current DVR I hate her.
Due to Job Discrimination is one number one! Not our deaf communitiy take advantage of SSDI ..it is not true.. but beside some of SSDI I thought deaf recieved and doing nothing. I know several mean they are abuse on SSDI.
ABUSE SSDI/ SSI are fact hurt by deaf.. not all of us fault.
No way to support our family need. I had to use SSDI for while.
ASLpride is correct to not point to deaf people always struggle. I realized it is not our deaf community. No one taught Business understand the deaf can wonderful speed useful deaf employment..
I agree with Ann Marie's comment about it. So similiar my case. I have not find a job over a years. I lost my job with all deaf with low income. that They hurt me and lost my job, again.

I've tries to explain everyone others don't blame on Deaf People are lazy and much more. Seems They aren't understand. I'm not alone..
I've been there and tries to find a job since 5 years from now. Having hard time to get a job around here and pretty Ain't fun!
I'm mother of full time and taking care children for long time until few years ago. I decide find a job but no luck and made pay visit the Employment center and discuss issue of my matters. Few wks later, Finally I got a job which it's part time chef. Somehow, I got sick and worst. Head of Boss decide flick me out very short time. I realized that I'm pregnant. Why not, I come back and see there where I was working. I spotted my good friend who work w/me. She was very happy seeing me and talk then hollering to Head of Boss. He came and stunned surprised reacts that I'm here. He realized that I'm pregnant and wishes not flick me out first place. He came and apologized me. I accept his apologized BUT, not sure if I could go back that company again? Pretty hard for me to have back that company reason he flick me out first place no reason.
I've seen so many Deaf peoples are fusterate finding a job across Canada... isn't alone as same in USA and rest other countries who telling me about this stories.
Even I don't understand why Deaf person tend insulting to other Deaf people, you're frigg'n lazy and blah blah using ssi/ssdi or else, but not even understand why they kept continue calling bad naming!
Somewhat have good reason their health cannot meet and have job by written Doctor orders. They think DEAF IS Bluffing! Isn't none of true! Pretty Sad..
Seems Rest of everyone who not respect them at all.

I agree with you 100 percent. Its like lab rats they are doing the test. AgBAD are like lab scientists that only accept those rats with minimum speaking skills, and the rest of rats becomes wasted products. Those affected Deaf people become victims as a result for many years. Its time to make it stop!!!

I agreed with you! But but there are a lot of Oral Deaf with CI and no CI who still on SSI/SSDI too!

Sorry, I wasn't reply asap as I was out to deafread conference. :)
I am very appreciating with your positive feedback about my topic. I know many deaf people have hardship and they don't need more hardship from those people who demeaning them. I know that high percent of deaf people are trying, but nobody gave them a chance like Anne Marie, deaf pixie, GalaxyAngelz, and many others. Thank you for sharing your experience and I hope people understand the true reason. It’s time for us to educate corporation that we can be a really good employees.
