"Ameslan" was quite a trendy phrase for defining the primary lingustic usage of deaf people at that time. It never got much further within the deaf American community.

If you take a close look at Lou Fant's signing styles which really do not resemble much of the ASL linguistic structure.

Lou Fant was a CODA himself which many deaf people do not take him seriously which the concept of ASL to be seen as true language in the infancy stage after Dr. William Stokes uncovered the linguistic value of ASL thru methodical research.

Hmm, your project to bring up "Ameslan" seems an interesting task. Let's see what will happen with the vibes of ASL users and the deaf American community! Okay?

"Amelsan" seems the catchy phrase to define our unique language which happen with Barack Obama as some kind of fashionable name for the presidential candidate as compared to the tiresome and common name usage like John McCain.

You are probably right about the American Sign Language seems too technical or general within other so-called sign languages.

Good luck to you!
