Politically incorrect statement...

Actually, there are several different parts to your vlog that someone can comment on. I will comment only on the ones that fascinated me.

"Deaf who are able to speak", it is all in the mind of the beholder. My husband is hearing and many of my "speaking- deafie- friends" do NOT have intelligible speech, despite what THEY believe. My husband often withdraws, using some excuse or another as to try not to offend anyone. I think it is wrong for any deafie to "presume" that he/she has intelligible speech unless they are very late deafened.

To quote Ogden Nash, "We are all human under our pelts".

Secondly I have problem with ASL teachers correcting others' ASL in public. I am of the old school and have held on to my old signs, which I consider politically correct, even tho THEY might not. So your message here can work many different ways. HOH of people who have "intelligible speech" find fault with the non-speaking deaf, and I(personally) do not like to be corrected by a "professional" ASL teacher.

We can all get along if we accept one another's pecularities!

An Interesting comment but I think I am starting to smell near your shoes .. lol. No offense thou. I have a hearing friend who still uses the older ASL because of his late Deaf parents. I can understand him fairly well. I am eager to learn new "old" signs from him and the older generation of Deaf people. It is awesome.

It seems to me that the place where your son got hearing test is "ignorant" of facts. He could use that statement to hearing parents but you are DEAF so, you already know and your son already exposed to ASL language through you. So, his statement was wrong.

Did we say anything to cause them to make that statement? I don't think so.

I think most of the time hearing people, even though are "audiologist", still do not know anything about deafness. Most Audiologist do not get exposure of deaf culture execpt those that go to Gallaudet or other college, etc that has large group of deaf. Audiologist are not required to take any deaf studies courses are they?

As for two groups of deaf, hmm You, know, I do not like that statement but I've seen many deaf people who cannot speak say that. They do feel those who can speak have better chance. I do wonder what the statistics are.

hey u again! lol i still thinking of other ur videoclip humor! lol anyway i want sharing with my opinion and experience.... honest i am only deaf in my family. I NEVER go to say "I CAN SPEECH WELL, IT'S WILL IMPORVE MY SKILL FOR JOB" i never said it. i just shut myself up. be cool, and just be myself till for example if something happened FIRE in the house? i can SCREAM WITH MY VOICE SAID " FIRE ON THE HOUSE!" it's not meaning show off that i can speak i just can do as basic if i want learn speech for myself as hobbies but MOSTLY OF THE TIME i don't use my voice very often just once or twice a months. as i just habit some voice for my parents to understand what i try to say. sometime they don't got what i try to said in ASL. they are not ASL well just pse and home sign mixed not very well sign language just BASIC. i am not kind show off to deaf people that i can speech. honest i don't care. i just want to be myself that's who i am. if person asked me if i can speech i will tell them yes tiny i not use it often. unless i need it then i will use it tiny. so people won't judge on me as just keep simple attitude show who i am. i am not show off think i am best than them and i make smarter when i use speech. hey it's not true! i only want to learn speech little bit. for good example if i need bathroom so badly ask someone i need bathroom so so i said bathroom speech they will show me where. keep that simple. i will not use voice while get job i will rather use ASL OR WRITE instead speech. i just use speech for last minute need to tell as in hurry. soemtime i don't use voice i go write quickly or gesture if they understand me first if not then i will use my tiny speech. BUT ONE THING I HATE when people asked me rude if i can readlip. that's the WORSE incorrect statement to ask question to me. why should i read their lips. i don't want see their beautiful, ugly, small, big, teeth gaps, no teeth, too much move. it's too annoy for me. i want thing is nice as WRITE instead look at their gross lips i dont' care if they are pretty i not want kiss them if i keep look at them! know what i mean? i hate see hearing people looking for so easier for themselves. HELLO????? WRITE IS MORE EASIER than readlip if they want me understnad what they talk about. if they rather me read their lips i will NOT UNDERSTAND THEM AT ALL JUST INGORED BLAHBLAH BLAH BLAH BLAHLAHDF;ALKDEGR;HANRFP;OAE V i don't understand what they talk about that's all i know alien language in their lips moved! gosh it's too annoying. sometime hearing people NEVER see any deaf like that as ASL CULTURE. i don't blame on them i will teach them what ASL CULTURE. but THE BIG PROBLEM not enough deaf people in TV, NEWS, OR WHATEVER YALL NAME IT WHAT PEOPLE SEE DAILY if for sure deaf people in it with ASL CULTURE it's will be awesome NO EXCUZE FOR ANYONE WHO NEVER SEE IT bullshit to them. save our angry with their bullshit words. and thank for sharing ur point to discuss issues about politically incorrect statement.... it's very interesting discuss about it yes i can noticed a lot people have problem with politically incorrect statement. it's more like hate speech as u talk about it. same idea hate speech can be SHOW OFF WITH THEIR EGO. it's kind of rude. if they are happy with their speech skill then that's fine with us unless don't show off and ego if they can do best job than they do. BECAUSE............. WE DON'T GIVE A FUCK ABOUT IT! THAT'S IT! they need shut up and be COOL as nice. if person are happy with his/her skillet speech make her/his edcuated better, learn quickly and stuff help for her or him. it's GREAT thing. unless she or he not tell us that they think better than us. i hope ANYONE READ MY COMMENTS so anyone know how thinking twice be cool and be ourselve for who we are. that's it. that's my opinion i hope it's good point here. by the way KEEP UP WITH UR VIDEOCLIP i like ur interesting discuss and funny story too! :D

Thank you for your sharing with us about the perspective of political statement.

According to the brochure that you just mentioned, "Without learning to speak, deaf person would have incapable of learning skills in language and reading." That's outrageous!

I agreed with David Kerr on his video clip about providing the brochure to educate the federal/state&province/local governments and provide the brochure in positive message that deaf people are capable to understand the language and reading skills through sign language and visual communication. In our country, American Disablities Act are intact since 1990, most corporations, federal and state agencies provided sign language interpreter to faciliate the communication with deaf and hard of hearing employee in workplace. The hearing employee are encouraged to learn their perspective in cultural advice rather than medical advice.

We are in oppression society that the medical people are viewed at us as different than others. That's very frustrating! We are human beings that God made us as unique.

Amen to all of your comments. Thanks to ASLpride for bringing that up and making us think about how to combat corrupt professional audists. I think Deaf organizations need to work together to set up standard pamphlet project to discourage parents about pure AVT or oralism and to encourage them about ASL and Bi Bi.

Hello to everyone who left comments, I want to let you know that I appreciate for your feedback. It is valuable information that you have shared. I want to respond to each of you, but I have class tonight and the camcorder is in office and it will take time to edit and transfer video to this post. However, I will do it tomorrow and share my thought with you all. :)
